Stay Prepared with a Roadside Emergency Kit - Emich VW of Boulder

Prepare for Any Situation with a Roadside Emergency Kit

Although we never want anything to happen while out and about in Northern Colorado, you always want to be ready in case your vehicle breaks down at the side of the road or another serious event occurs. Keeping a special roadside emergency kit in your family Volkswagen at all times is a great way to stay ahead of these potential situations. Emich VW of Boulder would like to offer suggestions as to what you should include in your kit so that you can safely handle a wide variety of emergencies that could arise. Keep you and your family safe all year long by being prepared, and every adventure will prove to be more enjoyable!

Elements to a Great Roadside Emergency Kit

Electrical Supplies – Regardless of the emergency that you might face, having the ability to contact the proper personnel and family members is important. As such, it is a good idea to keep a spare phone charger or two in your kit that can be quickly accessed if your phone is close to dying and you need to make calls. Additionally, having at least one flashlight in your vehicle at all times is a good idea if you need to check on your vehicle after a breakdown or if you are dealing with a nighttime emergency. Remember to keep the flashlight in working condition with fresh batteries on occasion.

Food & Water – You can’t be sure how long you will be stranded during an emergency. This is especially true if it happens to be winter and the roads are perilous for emergency personnel to arrive at your location. As such, having several bottles of water and a selection of non-perishable, nutritious snacks is important. You need to stay nourished in these situations and having these on hand will be vital if the emergency lasts for a longer period of time. If you have infants, keeping a small supply of baby formula is also advised.

Cleanliness Items – If an emergency happens to go on for a considerable amount of time, you will likely need to have cleanliness and other self-care items such as baby wipes and other products available. Especially if you are traveling with babies or young children, a supply of diapers and other necessities is a smart idea.

First Aid Kit – A well-stocked first aid kit can be important in a variety of situations.  Something simple with bandages, antibiotic ointment, an instant ice pack, and some tweezers works great!
