The Tiguan answers on price, power and simplicity. It starts lower ($31,205 vs $31,900), offers a genuinely quick 268-horsepower SEL R-Line Turbo for far less than the 324-hp plug-in RAV4, runs a larger available 15-inch screen, and keeps a straightforward turbocharged gas powertrain — no hybrid battery to think about — that doesn’t fade at Boulder’s altitude.
Cargo is effectively a wash (both around 69–70 cu ft) and both offer AWD, though several AWD RAV4 trims are rated to tow 3,500 lb versus the Tiguan’s 1,800. So this comes down to a clear trade: the RAV4’s hybrid MPG and towing against the Tiguan’s lower price, bigger screen and gas simplicity.
