Volkswagen celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Jetta GLI with limited-edition trim for 2024

Volkswagen of America Inc. announced today that they have started producing the 40th Anniversary Edition of the 2024 Jetta GLI. This limited edition will be available exclusively in North America, with a production run of 1,984 units to commemorate the GLI’s debut year, 1984. The GLI, fondly referred to as a “GTI with a trunk,” has a simple yet enduring mission: providing an affordable yet high-performing German sedan.

This anniversary edition will be a celebration of four decades of delivering enjoyable, efficient, and practical vehicles, epitomizing what the brand stands for. Available in Pure Gray, Pure White, and Rising Blue, the vehicle showcases blackout detailing against the GLI’s signature red trim. The exterior design is highlighted by sharp, black elements including a ten-spoke 18-inch wheel design, a front grille, mirror caps, door handles, and a spoiler.

The 40th-anniversary edition features bespoke interior details. The unique molecular cloth seats, each embossed differently, ensures no two of the 1,984 vehicles are identical. The GLI logo and the year 1984 are engraved on the cupholders, while seat tags and front door sills carry the inscription “GLI 40.” A “40” clip is also present at the six o’clock position on the steering wheel.

The vehicle’s performance credentials mirror those of the current GLI Autobahn. It’s powered by a turbocharged EA888 2.0-liter engine, capable of producing 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Transmission options include both a six-speed manual and a seven-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic. Performance enhancements include larger brakes, a Sport HMI performance monitor, VAQ electronic torque-sensing limited-slip differential and XDS® electronic differential lock, the DCC® adaptive damping system, and a sport exhaust.

The base price for the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 40th Anniversary Edition is set at $28,085 for the manual transmission model and $28,885 for the DSG transmission model, with an additional $1,150 for destination fees. The new Jetta GLI models are expected to arrive in dealerships later this summer.
